Spammers mess up free dating experiment

When an online dating site announced that they would be opening up the site for free as an experiment to see how people would join a free service, they were warned by members that it would end in disaster.

Hot or Not allows members to rate the photos of other members, in fact you cannot move on without rating, although you can “Click to Meet” the person in the picture being presented to you.

But in line with the warnings, the site has found that the spammers have been busy on Hot or Not by creating false profiles and clicking to meet every person that shows up in front of them. Maybe they were just lonely!

The site has now returned to a paid membership site, with prices starting at $5.95 per month, which is the same as before the period of free membership.
